Checking y pipe leak

I know wether y pipe or transom seal I have a leak. Seems like y pipe about 2” away from transom .Ive been told the pipe will leak with water muffs on garden hose ??.Can anybody confirm please. Just doesn’t seem like enough water compared being in the slip.Thsnk you

The y pipe can leak with muffs and the engine running but I would not use that as a test to eliminate it as a possibility. In the water the whole connection is below the water line as not the case with a garden hose. A failed bellows in the drive is more likely than either. You need to get in there and have a better look with it in the water.
