Check engine alarm

Have a 2006 Amberjack with a 350 Mercruiser engine, the "check engine" alarm started going off today. Checked oil level that was fine. Engine gauges showing engine running at normal temps. Any suggestions on what else would cause alarm to go off?

check the gear oil reservoir should be on top of motor right in front.

The alarm will sound if the engine temperature is too high, the oil pressure is too low, or the gear oil level in the outdrive is low.
