Went out on the boat yesterday.
Aligned Stbd side shaft a few weeks ago.....(important part of story to remember).....
Did my usual fluid etc check and everything looked ok before I fired up. Stbd side motor would run for 1-2 seconds and alarm would go off and then shut down. Fluids ok but apparently I had accidentally unplugged MAP sensor while I was lurching over engine to align shaft the previous week. It wasnt completely pulled out of the pigtail, just loose enough to not make contact!! Re-installed and fired right up.
Then....about 30 mins later, while cruising at 3200rpm and enjoying the day, Stbd motor suddenly loses power...lots of crab pots so I thought I caught one. Tried to clear it by backing down etc and could never get it back to 3200rpm. When I arrived at our sandbar anchor spot, I lifted the hatch and saw that one of the spark plug wires was flopping off of the engine block and this explained the loss of power.....again probably dislodged from working on the shaft (new plug wires). Reinstalled plug wire and full power.
Sometimes our own maintenance causes hidden issues so always check and recheck!
