I just brought an ancor starter kit for under a $100. That alone will do nothing. If you want to see the data from your engines you’ll need a gateway of some type and cables to your gps. Look at my recent posts about this.

I'm going to buy the 2k starter kit and the smartcraft gateway and go from there

I've been up reading this since 3:00 this morning doing research I think I'm just going to get the Mercury vessel view and Bluetooth that to my cell phone just to check on my engine temperatures and engine parameters that's really all I need it for it's just a single engine boat. A 5.0 EFI alpha

Just an FYI you won't get as much engine info. through BT as you will through n2k network.
Also if you had to do that much reading, you may not be up for the task.

It's a winter job for me so I think I need to see an actual installation on a boat and go from there. This summer is almost over anyway. I know someone I can work with. Thanks. Was just wanting to know engine temp and water pressure

I said I was sorry. That's why I want to know what I needed to see if there was a simple way with smartcraft.i apologize

It's all good fellas. That's what a forum is for, information we don't know that others do! Scott, you can get a backbone kit for less than $100 to build the network. On my boat I have a 4 port J box under the helm with one open port that I will connect the smart craft -> nmea2k network. From there the cable for nmea2k goes into said backbone on a "T" connector. Add another T connector on either side for power wire to connect to ( I will more than likely wire this to the back side of my accessory switch to power on/off when I need it. From there add another T connection on the other side of the power connector to distribute the load better and send that cable up to your MFD. Add your terminating resistors to both ends of the backbone and you should be good. Nmea2k backbone starter kit and gateway will be around $700..... From there just choose the MFD you want.

(Terminating resistor)------T(MFD)----T(power)-------T(gateway)----(terminating resistors)

If that makes sense

I don't really care about side view and chirp and all the cool bells and whistles right now due to my transducer still being functional. When it dies is when I will more than likely upgrade to a clearvu or sidevu xdcr out of needing one and they are around same price as a thru-hull smart craft xdcr.

So I just went with vessel view mobile for a few reasons. It was 500 dollars less and I want to step up to a 24 or 26 foot boat in a few years. I know all the parts that I need and wrote it all down. Thanks for the help. I really wanted to keep an eye on temp and water pressure. I appreciate everything

Went with vessel view for a few different reasons, cost and would like to move up to a 24 26 foot boat in the future

Those are nice, a quick install and less expensive but from what I've read will not provide nearly as much information as the full system integration unit's will.
Kinda like the OBDII app based dongle's you referenced in the Armada thread. Conversely, at the shop we have Auto/LT truck live data reading capable code readers/scanner's, (4) $1,900.00 - $3,500 - $5,600 and a $12K+ unit.
None of which hold a candle to what is available to the technician's at the dealership/manufacture level.

True but it shows fault codes , everything the engine computer sees I can see. Not injector timing and stuff but what I really want to see like real temp and water pressure
