Ok I have been out of boating for a number of years and my knowledge of electronics is very limited I have purchased a 1987 Sea Ray Sport fisherman My use of the boat will be primarily fishing the Chesapeake Bay and some crusing down the bay to places that I have never been to With this in mind I would like to purchase a GPS fishfinder chartplotter combo. I am looking at two on ebay item numbers 251887029431 and 251898457466 I am not brand loyal I am just looking for the most bang for my buck (am looking at spending around 2 K) and am open to suggestions Thanks in advance

Those are two nice units. I have used both Garmin and Lowrance and found that I just liked Lowrance better for ease of use. The Garmin I had cut out randomly and I have heard the same from others so that turned me off to the brand. If you like bang for the buck, you might also want to check out the Raymarine a and e series.

Lowrance and Simrad are made by the same company. Lowrance is targeted to fishermen and Simrad is higher end and more for cruisers and larger boats. On a recent trip to West Marine, I played with both the touch screen Lowrance and Simrad models. The Simrad was very smooth and fast. I will likely go Simrad when I upgrade.

Just purchased a Garmin 840xs. It is amazing. I got the GCV 10 transducer with it, purchased as a bundle. This technology is very good. Same price range. Extremely user friendly. PM me for vender info if interested.
