I´m thinking og getting an autopilot for my boat
is it possible to hook it up with my Garmin 3010 an getting it to drive using my routes in the chartplotter?
do I need a special autopilot to get it to work?

Your Garmin unit outputs NMEA 0183. Any new pilot will read NMEA 0183 so YES, your unit will work with any pilot to feed it waypoint data. What kind of boat do you have?

Searay use to work with the ST7001 from Raymarine.
A newer model option is ST7002

They can communicate trough SeaTalk and NMEA integration.

The Raymarine pilots are nice, but Simrad has recently introduced some pilots with Virtual Feedback. This basically means the pilot is now smart enough to not need a rudder reference unit. The RR unit is always the first thing to fail on a pilot. TR-1, which makes the best recreational pilot on the market, started doing thei a few years ago. The pilot I would recommend is the Simrad AP1603VF.

If you want to save some bucks there is nothing wrong with the Ray pilots. The Ray pilot you would need is the ST6002 S1

For just a few more bucks you can get the Gyro compass version of the above which will program itself much better and perform better ST6002S1G
