changing the oil in your boat

FragMag;

you can get the relocator from boaters world or Westmarine. It's well worth the expense and time to do it as it make an OIL change so easy....

I use the Moeller Fluid Extractor Kit (5-star rating on WestMarine.com) to change my oil, even though its trailered. I don't have any kind of hose gizmo to pull out of my drain plug. Sounds like a nice feature.
My oil filter where it is threaded upward to seal; I'd call that normal, but... I use an oil filter wrench to remove it, with a small trash bag underneath to catch any oil that comes out. There isn't any room to get even the smallest of pans or buckets down there.
But its easy; don't pay someone else to do it!

I can also say that removing the outdrive is pretty much as easy (maybe easier), as I'm doing that now. Who knows if I can reinstall it though!

I must be lucky. My boat has an oil drain hose connected to my transom drain plug. I unscrew the plug. Pull out the hose, and (using two 9/16 wrenches) unscrew the plug at the end of the hose and drain it in the lake. JUST KIDDING:grin::lol: In a 5 gallon bucket. Then I dump it in the lake.

That's polluting pal....

You should dump it in the storm drain on the edge of the road.

Razor...is there a reason why your pic needs to be 42" wide?:smt021

I use the Tempo "Oil Boy" extracter.....Works great.....Plan a couple of days if you want to use the drain plug out of your bilge

the oil change was easy but took some time.

the oil line hose wasn't connected to the drain plug. we broke the arm off a cheap pair of sunglasses to fish it out. if this had been connected it would have saved a good thirty minutes if not more.

what we changed:
oil
oil filter
fuel filter (dealer said to change this twice a year if you get gas on the lake)
drive lube
2 washers (top and bottom of the out drive)
$110

tools used.
pliers x 2 (drain plug and oil line hose)
drive lube pump
oil filter wrench
oil pan
1/2 roll of shop towels

i took pics but i'm not sure if they will help anyone.

boat has 140 hrs.

bilandamy is there a reason you use the "Godfather" as your pic? Maybe I have a big screen and like it.

You mean my avatar pic? I was not noting your content, just the size ;-) My av pic is small.

DOnt worry, I really dont care, its just funny, as your posts are the only ones that bring up the bottom scrolling bar on the site.

If he resized his picture you his boat would look about the size of Gary's dingy

I take it you are saying it took a while to drain?? I haven't any such issues using the plug drain. As others have suggested, I just loosened the fill cap and it was done pretty quickly.

I don't need a big boat. I live on a lake. If I get hungry or need to take a crap, I just pull into my dock, run up, and take care of my business. If Gary's dinghy is as big as my boat HE's HUNG:smt043:smt043:smt043:smt043:smt043:smt043

Maybe your right....I may try it this year and I'll have to remeber to loosen the fill cap. Imagine it helps break the vacuum

2006 195 Sport

Bare with me, 1st post....

Read through the thread and don't have access to my boat right now - should i expect to find a oil drain tube with my water drain plug, or should I fork out the money to purchase a oil pump????

Also, how do i confirm how much oil to replace with?

Boat is in garage and will be stored in the water on a lift for the summer.

I'm new to all of this and would greatly appreciate any assistance!

I don't have a 2006 195 sport but if I had to guess I'm going to say yes you have a drain hose.

As for how much to replace with, measure how much comes out, put that much back in, run the engine and then check the dipstick and fill accordingly.

I ran into this problem the first time I did mine. I put in what the motor was supposed to hold; but I did not take into account the possibility of some oil being left in the pan and in the tubing to the remote oil filter. So I over filled it.

However with the Oil Boy I simply pumped out the extra oil "Before I started the Engine".

Eye ball what you take out and put back in about the same amount or less. let it settle and check the dip stick. it you're in the safe zone go boating. if you're short put a little in and then go boating.
