Changing my own oil?

I have the unit Rod has. Works like a champ. Wish it had a slightly larger capacity. It's very close to full for each engine.

You could make your own with a 12V pump from harbor frieght and some fittings.

I second the Jabsco Porta Quik! Great product and hold the oil of two 7.4's!

While we are on the topic of changing the oil: TIP- when changing the oil filter, loosen with a oil wrench and then place a zip lock baggie around the filter and unscrew completely. When completely separated from the fitting, drop the filter into the bag and seal. No Mess!

I use the Moeller extractor - comes with different size hoses for the various dipstick tubes. Works extremely well - warm up engine and suck out oil. Takes about 5 mins for each engine and it's easy to dump the old oil. Was about $70 if I remember correctly at WM and it has performed flawlessly. I like the look of the flat electric one - but also appreciate the simplicity of the vacuum operated one. Personal choice - it all allows you to change the oil and stop paying extremely inflated rates for the service.

I've used this model for about 8yrs after my electric oil pump went on the fritz :smt013. The best thing about this one is its compact design.

I have the Shureflow Model with DC power and love it. I use it on both boat my wifes SL 500 and my BMW 550. It makes oil changes a breeze. It really is one of the best investments I have made in a long time.

How do you reset the computer on the 550? On my old '98 328 I had a tool to do so, but no idea how to do it on an '06 750...

I use it on the cars as both cars sit so low I can not gt under them. In the SL and BMW the Oil Filter is on top of the motor so it does not take long and saves about $100 from what the dealer charges.

I paid $118 with free shipping from Star Marine Depot. I have used it for a year and never had a problem getting all the oil out of any engine.

Most shops will gladly take it as long as it hasn't been contaminated with other fluids (gas, coolant, solvent, etc). We sell our used oil to recycling companies - so the more oil the better!

I just have a simple hand vacuum pump unit that I've had for years. It works great but now that I have a boat with twins in it... my undiagnosed a.d.d. kicks in. I'm gonna' get a 12v pump unit so I can do something more exciting while the oil pan is being emptied. :)

The Jabsco Porta Quik is what you could make for well under $50.

This pump is normally $25 on sale.

You can get a bucket and lid like this for under $10

Add another $10 for hoses and fittings and use the $100 you saved to put some gas in the boat.

Got the exact same pump today with no success of pulling the oil out today. Is was after warming up the engine too. It would pull the oil but just barely spit it out. At the rate it was going, I might make it to use the boat at the END of SUMMER!!! I changed it out thinking it was the pump and nope, same thing.

Bottom line, that pump does NOT work for this job.

I think I'm gonna just get a Jabsco setup.

Electric pump here and it works great! I've used it on my Honda eu2000, lawnmower and it will work on your onboard gennie too. It's a handy device and has capacity to do both engines! I warm up one engine and start it while I winterize the head or freshwater system. Once it's done, I start the other engine to warm it up and then change the filter on the first engine while removed oil on the second. Then I finish the other winterizations tasks.

Picked up a Jabsco setup. 150.00 out the door at WM, but it works! It comes with a 3 year manufacture warranty. The time wasted yesterday (driving, thinking, gas, and all day of headaches) was yes wasted. My time is worth more to my family.

Last year, I did the hand pump. When I went to use it this time around, it was trash. The Jabsco, although expensive for such a simple device makes it easy. As the oil was pumping out, I was able to take care of other things on the boat. NICE.

The WM guy said people bring back the pump a year later because it doesn't suck anymore. He said the oil was eating up the impeller. According to the packaging, internal parts that contact the oil is "oil resistant". There are no cleaning instructions so I ran about a gallon of water through it after sucking out the oil. Hopefully that will prolong the life of its rubber parts.

Im a little confused by your post. Are you saying the Jabsco unit is a piece of junk??
