Hi All,
We have our new to us 400 sedan bridge 2000 since last season, and I am planning to change all impellers at launch in spring.
During the mechanic inspection/survey last summer, the cat mechanic show me how easy it was to access the impeller and change it on the cat 3126 (well access on the port side might be a little bit more tricky).

However I remember him mentioning a pin at the back of the housing, behind the impeller. And he told me to make sure that it was in the right position before pulling of the impeller, to avoid the pin to fall off.

Anybody with any experience? Is it really something I should worry about or is it "as simple" as it looks?

Thank you!

PS: I have used the search function on the forum, but none of the results were exactly answering this

I had the 3116s and never seen or worried about a pin.
If you were pulling the hole assembly there might be something but just pulling the cover and changing the impeller is not to bad. Having the tool that threads in the impeller is very handy. Can be done without it but be careful prying it out, the housing is brass and the groove for the o ring seal can be damaged very easily. Don't ask me how I know this and why I know about the tool.

Morning Welcome to CSR!

3126's have Sherwood pumps. Mine are 1732C models (there were several flavors over the years) and they all use a 17000K impeller kit. These pumps/impeller have a key that needs to be lined up and can be a little tricky to get in.

On mine, the oil gallery impedes access, so I usually pull the whole pump off (a couple hose clamps and 2 large bolts) and do them on the bench.

My Cummins 6BTAs used to eat impellers every 100 hrs or so. Not a hard job but getting the impeller in there and lining up the key was a little bit of a PITA.

Seaboard marine has replacement pumps for Cummins with a splined shaft...no key. Wish he would do a 1732 version...

All, thank you for your adive ;)
I just succeed to change the starboard impeller.
I used the puller that I had to modify to fit :)

now trying to do the port which is behind... crawling, one gand doesn’t make it easy...
Issue here is have a connector on the way, right in front of the axis so I cannot put the puller

any idea if I can just turn, or unplug? Any precaution?

thank you

I have the bolt and just thread it in and it pushes the impeller out...
