I was considering changing my impellers during the winter layup. My engines and generator have been winterized. If I change my impellers now, will that impact the winterization of the engines and generator? Will all the antifreeze leak out? Should I just hold off until spring?

Thanks,
Chris

I vote for waiting until spring. Aside from running dry, the next biggest risk factor for an impeller is the "set" - blades being tightly folded over for a long period of time. I see no reason in subjecting the blades to that for an extra storage season.

I second rollercoaster's advice.

You can start the project now by removing the impellers. The antifreeze will leak out, which won't be a problem. You could argue that air in the engine is safer than liquid antifreeze. You should not put the new impellers in now, because they will take a set.

If you remove the hose from the raw water pump side of the power steering cooler, that will negate the possibility of a siphon effect removing all the AF from the rest of the engine. The AF that you would then lose will be totally fine. Then you can have them already out, sitting on your work bench, ready to replace the impeller and reinstall come Spring. Either way is good (out and wait till Spring to replace, or just do the whole thing in the Spring), just wanted to answer your question about losing AF.

Thanks Dennis - appreciate it
