About a month or so ago I changed the water pump impeller and water separating fuel filter on my starboard engine.

Today, I attacked the port side. I had wanted to get to it earlier but my schedule just didn't allow it.

I'm pleased to say that although I had to remove the water muffler (it was rather easy to do), I completed both jobs in about 1.5 hours, with very little blood on my hands.

No broken parts, no lost parts, not even much cursing.

Having followed Hampton's excellent walk-through to complete the starboard side made doing the port side MUCH easier. I think next time I can cut the overall time down to about two hours for both engines.

This job is about a little patience, and little gymnastics, and lots of reading. I wouldn't have guessed it is as easy as it actually is.

Removing the water separating fuel filter is about the only scary part (the thing is fuel of gasoline). I used a couple of oil absorbent mats underneath the filter area, and a jar to quickly pour the gasoline into from the filter.

No pictures today, but everything looks very similar to the pictures Hampton has posted already.

Glad to have it all done!

Man, am I ever glad I have straight shafts! No muffler removal required for maintenance!!

Oh, but guests have to sleep in the ER since there's no aft-cabin... :wow:

Life is just full of compromises.

If you can, slip a zip lock over the fuel filter, that way when you get it off, whatever fuel will spill down into the zip lock bag. Great trick someone told me once, and it is the way to go to keep things fuel free.

Great suggestion. I'll do that for sure next time, since it will save all sorts of headaches I got trying to ensure I didn't spill any gas.
