Hi everyone.

i am replacing my original raymarine c80 to the Garmin 840.

My boat is a 2006 Sea Ray 320 with twin 350 mags.

My question is, can I connect the garmin to the nmea 2000.

Is is there a nmea plug from the raymarine I just need to move?

If so, any suggestions, I would have thought the raymarine was nmea comparable as it did have all the engine stats on it.

Thanks for everyone advice

Yes, there is a plug in on the back of the 840SX for the 2000. So far the 840sx has been great. I only wish there was a thru-hull transducer that supports DownVu. Also the owners manual sucks BTW.

I switched all raymarine out and installed Garmin. The 840 is nema 2000 and the c80 is 0183. If you want carry all engine data to your 840 you need to get something called a merc Gateway that translates 0183 to nema 2000. Its simple and plugs directly in the junction box to the nema 2000 network. I installed a 840xs, GMI 20 and a garmin 18xhd radar myself and bought everything from BOE.They are excellent! I was going to pay to have someone install and they wanted close to 3K. What a difference when you hook up the Garmin! The radar is amazing!
If you have any questions let me know.

Just out of curiosity why the 840sx? I am pondering the same switch to Garmin on my '05 340. Have started to shop and like the 4208, or 5208 if I want to go touch screen, though I am not sure how touch screen would work with a anything but a smooth, stable ride and my less than slender fingers.

I was looking for the largest screen that would fit in the hole on my '05 340. The touch screen thing really didn't matter to me. So far I like the unit. I purchased the transom mount transducer with the unit and attached it to a trim tab. Works well at all speeds. I went with the Xhd dome. One of the guys at another marina is using the hd dome and really I cannot justify the xhd dome now and wish I could have compared the two and saved a few bucks. The owners manual is lacking in information but after playin with the 840 have figured everything out. If you go with the 840 and have any questions, ping me.
