Figured I'd throw this out there because you guys usually have an answer to just about everything...

I'm a dumbazz and jumped in the ocean yesterday with my cell phone still in my pocket. Short of the long, is that I can't get it to come on, and am currently trying to get it really dry before I mess with it anymore.

I couldn't care less about the phone, but the data in it (ie, my phone book) has my entire life in there. Verizon is telling me they can only restore the data if they can power it on (which you currently cannot).

Does anyone know of a service, program, or wizard whom I could send this phone to so maybe they could take the chip out of it or anything and get my life back??? :smt100

if your phone has a sim card in it and you got it out of the phone you should be able to transfer the info. was it saltwater, did you rinse with fresh?

I gave mine a dunking in the Ohio River a few years back. I took the back off, removed the battery, and let it set it the sun all day. It worked when I put it back together. Make sure it is totally dried out before you try to power it on...you might get lucky.

Saltwater does a number on phones.. I've lost several to this. The thing will start to ooz green stuff in about 3 days.

Unfortunately, there is no SIM card. It was salt water, and I did rinse it. It just vibrates when you put any power to it!? :smt021

those data recovery places can do wonders, but after you get the bill you'll think boating is cheap.

Unforunately, you have tried to power it up. The best solution is to leave the battery out, let it dry for several days, and then power it on.

For future reference, Verizon has a utility called "backup assistant", which automatically backs up your contact data at whatever interval you set. I know this because I fell in the water with my verizon phone several years ago. They state that it is $2 per month, but it's free if you qualify for the Verizon merits program.

I don't verizon has any phones with sim cards any more. It is best to let it dry before trying to power on.

I use backup assistant and it is free if you sign up on the internet for you account.

I have nextel on motorola phones whih have sim cards and I have a contact copier gizmo and have a spare card for the contacts.

good luck

Try putting hte whole phone in a bag of dry rice. this has worked twice with me and once with my wife. It wicks all of the moisture out of the phone. worth a try.
