Hey, anyone back from Babylon NY Beach blast last night? Great show and fireworks but the winds turned hard 20 mph + I guess this was the Blast part of the show. The wind was now from the north last night ( 3 AM ugh. ) and caused a group of three other boats to loose there anchors and wipe out our rear ancor and sending us in to the weeds.
Two of the three boats could not get there engines going. one dead battery & one Mechnical problems. Once the second boat got a Jump and get out of way ( looked like the LIE. Pile up ) We where able to get pulled out of the weeds. Lucky for my Dingy I was able to bring my line out to the very helpful boater ( yes a searay owner ) We where two boats together. The ends my 1st full year on the boat, Lucky no damage to us.
when does the Relaxing time start. :smt009
Thanks to the searay sundancer

We were over in Hemlock cove and saw the fireworks. Went from beautiful calm night to a breezy morning in a hurry. There was a 50 foot viking that came loose by us and ended up in some sand. nothing too bad though. We came back Sunday afternoon to Sayville dead into the east wind the whole way. Not too comfy. Saturday and night was perfect though.

Sunday night was rough. Bayshore had there Fireworks, moved from Sat. due to Beach blast. Only a Dozen boats out there all large ( on friends 38ft mine, too small) I think I have my fill of Fireworks for the year. I guess Summer ( What summer ) is over. No other boats at the Riverview ( Oakdale ) yesterday.

cedar beach basin's ground has horribly anchor holding.be very careful anchoring there.I see boats drag anchor there all the time.thats why you see lots of people put their anchor up on the island.if anchoring over night, better to head west to hemlock or the old coast guard cove.much better ground for anchoring

Thanks for the info regarding the basin. yes, I did see anchors on the island which made it hard for the dingy. We did learn about the basin ground the hardway. John G
