I replaced courtesy lights in my cockpit and want to add sealant between the flange on the light and the fiberglass.

Looking at silicone, 4000uv or lifeseal. I want something easy to remove.

Suggestions?

To keep water from getting in the hole for the wires. Fixture has a little o ring but the existing hole is too big for it to work. I could cut some rubber gasket to fit but sealant would be easier and probably better

I pretty much have only been using the BoatLife products for the last 15 years, but any of those products will work. However, as mentioned... why? It's going to be such a small amount of sealant that it might start to peel, anyways. If the fixture didn't come with a gasket that works, then make your own gasket around the hole. Let it set up a bit, then attach the fixture. That would be more productive (and aesthetically pleasing) in the long run.

The existing hole diameter (bout 2.5”) is bigger than the diameter of the oring (bout 2”). there’s a plastic lip under the chrome bezel which you can’t see in the pic. The lip is donut shaped and bout 1/2” wide. There are 2 mounting holes in the plastic lip that are thicker than the rest of the lip which creates a gap between the lip and the fiberglass.

If it doesn't work to put the sealant on the boat, run a bead of sealant just inside the outer edge of the piece (slightly proud of the lip). Let it tack up a bit and then install. Have some paper towels on hand and wipe up any that squeezes out. You can use masking tape ahead of time, but it doesn't really save much time in the end. 6 of one.
