I am considering taking my family on a cruise from our home port on Catawba over to Geneva on the Lake this up coming week. Has anyone here made this trip before? If so, how long of a cruise would it be?
Weather will be a deciding factor whether we try this or not, but thought I would get some of your thoughts on this trek.

Thanks

wow, that's quite a trek, If you follow the shoreline you're probably looking at over 100 miles, I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of over 5 hours if you include no wake zones and docking:huh:

Sounds like a great trip. I have gone to lake Huron from Catawba but have never gone past Sandusky east. Hope the weather is good and you have a great time.

Geneva on the Lake is a neat little town, If you can, try and be there on a weekend, there is a little more activity then.
Greg is right on the miles from Catawba, we go from PIB to geneva when we come back to Buffalo, it's just under half way for us.
Calling ahead for reservations is a good idea if you think you might be arriving on the weekend. There is a beach just west of the marina that you can walk to or anchor in front of, and the town is about a 15 minute walk east of the marina. They have a pretty good fireworks display at the golf course on the 4th every year, which can be viewed from any where in town or on the lake, but it sounds as though you will be a week early.
Have fun, and I hope the weather is great because we are heading out for a while during that time also

Watch the fishing nets past Cedar Point all the way to Cleveland. If you're not up to speed on the flags meaning, I'd do some reading, because I've never gone thru there without running into the nets.

Thanks for all of the advice. I have been across the lake to Eireou (50 +/- miles) before fishing but never that far east. I was guessing 4+ hours. Even though I would love to visit Geneva, I may have to re-think the length of trip. Not sure if my kids can stay occupied that long!
I know nets can be a pain. They seem especially thick in the Vermillion / Lorain area.
