I just bought oil and fuel filters for my engines and am getting ready to do the first oil change.

I bought them from CAT this time because I wanted to make sure I had the correct filters. I learned one thing--CAT is VERY proud of their filters.

Does anyone know a source where you can buy CAT filters or other brand, good quality filters?

Was your source on the water?

I have found that most Caterpillar filters for marine applications are also used on construction equipment and prices from dealers who cater to that business are much more competitive.

I have also found that Cat filters are competitive with aftermarket brands. Napa/Wix filters are more expensive for my boat than Cat filters bought from the Cat dealer. Additionally, Cat filters are much better and are matched to your engine's needs.

Frank,

Thanks for the "frank" answer. No, my source wasn't a marine dealer, just a CAT dealer/repair house. I did a google search on the CAT p/n and came up with a source for the oil filter and found a source but wanted to see if there were other sources that other diesel owners use.

I'm also looking for some CAT fan belts to keep as spares. CAT only sells one I'm looking for in pairs. Go Figure I want to have one on hand for a spare but not two.

Are you ever in Nashville?

Thompson Cat is easy to get to and their parts guys are excellent. They do mostly construction equipment parts business, so dealing with a boater who isn't covered with diesel oil is a novelty for them. Best of all, their prices are not marina or on-the-water prices. In fact, their OEM Cat filters are cheaper then WIX/NAPA filter at the local parts store.

I suspect they will ship to you once you get your billing info in their system. My daughter lives in Nashville, so I just run by on the way to or from.
