CAT 3126
Ok, so ran my CAT 3216 engines dockside this morning. Harbormaster calls me four hours later tells me it looks like raw diesel fuel is actively leaking from port exhaust tube at transom. Went to check myself, no fuel smell in the cabin, all bilge areas pristine and dry, no leaks around tanks or fuel lines. Is there a scenario whereby raw fuel could leak into exhaust/raw water areas of the engines when the engine is off and flow by gravity out the exhaust port under the swim platform? I expect there's still residual pressure that remains in the fuel supply system after the pump. Thoughts?? Engine runs fine, no excessive smoke, etc from exhaust, fuel level in that tank is about 75% full.

There are 2 possible ways raw fuel can get to the exhaust system. The first is an injector leaking into a cylinder, but I think you would see other symptoms if that were happening……..excessive smoke on start ump blue smoke in the exhaust and a definite rood of raw fuel around the stern. The other problem, and the most likely source, if there are no other symptoms, is the fuel cooler on the engine on the engine. Fuel coolers are a relatively low expense item in the cooler category…..somewhere between $500 - $700, depending upon where you buy it.
