Quick oil level Q. The yard did the oil change on my CAT 3126's and refilled with Rotella T-30. They filled to the "mid" point between the two marks on the dip sticks. Is this the recommended level, or should I top off and bring the level to the upper mark?

thanks,

Dominic
Should be fine where it is. Just keep an eye on the level and add if it gets closer to the "add" mark. You have about 5+ gallons in there.

Can't wait to see the new boat at BIH....

Dominic,
Too much oil is far, far worse than "not quite enough".
"Not quite enough" will never do any damage. When you exceed the "dipstick" full mark, the crankshaft counterbalancing lobes splash into the oil in the pan, and will "foam up" the oil.
Foam is not a liquid. Foamed oil doesn't pump well, or more precisely, doesn't pump at all, to the heads, cylinders, etc... :smt021 :smt021
Anything above the "ADD" level is much, much better than anything above the "FULL" level....
Best of luck with the new boat..... :smt038 :smt038

Hey Dom,
I run Rotella T as well, 15-40 flavor for the C series and the 3 cylilnder kubota in the generator. With the oil exchanger I was able to get my oil level right to, but not over, the top fill line on the dipstick. This is where the dealer had her last year at delivery, and the kid from Cummins this year said "perfect" on the mains, trannies, and gen set oil levels. On the Cummins the bottom of the safe range says "add 4 quarts". I had to add a total of 1/2 quart per side in 147 hours last season.
I am sure you are just fine where you are.
Look forward to crawling around each others' boats in July....the Admirals will think we have lost our minds...

Skip, my Admiral would think I lost my mind if I did "NOT" crawl around bilges while on a trip.......and somehow, I'd bet that your Admiral expects the same from you....

MM has my boat looking like the day she was born.... ...they even got out the CAT white paint and did some nice touch up.......I'll be sure to keep it that way.....I was thinking of setting up a small buffet table between the mains for the "pot luck" night at the dock.....

Dom,
We can either hang out in the engine rooms, or toss my 6 and 3 year old boys down there when they misbehave. "Clean the bilge boys, and I will tell you when it meets spec"
