CAT 3126 - economy / performance tuning

Slime adds a good bit of drag........1/8" of slime is going to be worth 4-500 rpm, so it is a factor to consider. The goal is to run your boat often enough that you don't get a build up.

A diver is pulling my props on Monday to send them for propscan. I took all of the run data last weekend and will take it again after the propscan is done and props back on the boat. I can't wait to compare the data.

I think you should be able to hit those rpm's with fuel, water, people, and some "stuff" on board as well

Agreed. My trucks actually pull harder under load, and find their sweet spot with about 10K# behind them. Why? EGTs and cylinder temps raise with engineered load, turbos make more boost, resulting in a more complete burn of fuel injected. Then at some point, the load becomes more than designed, and inefficiency ensues.

Props are off and at the propscan shop! They won't be back on until next Tuesday so I can't test her this weekend.

Well you are correct. In fact I can make 2800rpm now with a full fuel and water tank load. Just takes a bit longer to get there. I also made 36mph on the GPS running with the wind, on relatively smooth water.

VERY happy with results of aftercooler cleaning, RACOR cleaning, new fuel filters and treatments. Its just running better and better each tankful.

Paying close attention to cruise speeds and recording trip hours/mileage so I can post some numbers after a few hundred miles underway. Need a large sample to be meaningful, but am certain that mileage is well above 1mpg....maybe as high as 1.4
