Under lessons learned....

I have a 97 vintage 400 DA with SS risers....found out these should have been replaced under a warranty repair but my boat slip thru. The SS risers leak/fail based on thermal cycling of the riser. Once they start leaking, they attack the turbo.

So, if you still have them, replace them with bronze units before your turbo's go too!

What were the Indications that you had a problem? I am currently in the process of rebuilding my heat exchangers. Port side water was just black. Suggests some sort of diesel leak some where. Just want to address any and all issues as I piece the motors back together.

My turbo hot gas casting cracked and antifreeze was leaking out the exhaust....you don't want to let them go. Its a matter of time before they crack and you are running on borrowed time if you have SS risers. My friend has the same vintage boat and his went last year too.

Hope this helps....

Thanks! Mine haven't fail yet but I have 1100 hours and the same boat...imagine I'm past the point of "shoulda". Where did you find bronze risers? Can you send a link if there were available on the internet? Thanks again,
Bud

Call raphael at pantropic cat in Miami. Best pricing I found and no sales tax. When you pull them, check the throat of your hot gas side/housing of the turbo. Mine where rusted out and required replacement in addition to the risers. Don't wait without inspection.
