Okay, so today I have the dreaded 3116 no start issue. Engine will crank but no sound of the fuel solenoid clicking in when start switch turned on. It has been playing up for a week now, 2 days after giving issues all week it started first time no problem. Earlier in the week wasn’t starting but after 1/2 an hour when trying again no problems.
Today couldn’t get going at all. Checked all connections on all relays (don’t have junction box model), swapped out little black Bosch type relay, tightened all connections on 4 terminal Ford type relay (cat part # 302266), no change.
What I did do which I found unusual is put volt meter on fuel solenoid Shut off terminals and both were reporting receiving 13v thereabouts with starter switch on, in other words both were acting as positive terminals, so couldn’t determine which one is the positive to run a live wire to to activate plunger in the solenoid. In fact ran a wire from the starter to one of the terminals, sparked and got hot very quickly. Compared to on the other engine and could easily identify which was positive and which one was negative and both working as they should.
So I am presuming that if the fuel solenoid is receiving 12v from both wires, something amiss prior to the fuel solenoid.
in the same area as the ford type relay and the black Bosch type there is another round type relay with 2 terminals. On one of the sides is also a 60amp (60 from memory) red pop fuse. What relay is this one?
Any thoughts around this one and why I would be getting 12v to both terminals at the fuel shut off solenoid? Would it indicate which if any of the other relays the issue would be with. I compared both ford type relays and the one on the bad engine seemed to be acting in same fashion as the one on the good engine, so it may not be that either. Is there anything else to check between the actual start switch and those relays?
is it possible that solenoid is in stuck position?
