My '97 400 Sundancer has been leaking coolant into the bilge this past season. I've checked hoses, connections and the heat exchanger and see no apparent leaks. After each run, I am noticing the plastic coolant recovery tank is just about empty on the starboard engine. It appears that the coolant is leaking out the bottom seam in the tank. Upon examination of the tank, I see they are made of two pieces that are jointed together. It seems that after so many years, the seam has given way and with any kind of pressure, it forces the coolant out the bottom.

I'm trying to locate replacement overflow recovery tanks without much success. I've contact my local SeaRay dealer as well as my local CAT service center and neither carry the item nor are they able to recommend where to find these. I've done searches on the web and can't locate anything that looks similar or even close that might work as replacements.

Can anyone recommend a source for replacement coolant recovery tanks that are suitable for the CAT 3116? I don't know their exact capacity but they are approx 6"L x 7"H x 4"W

Use what ever you want. Hell use the jug the antifreeze comes in. Fill original tank to full line with water. Then dump the water in what ever you use and mark the level as being the full mark. Cut a hole in the top and snake the hose down to the bottom of your new tank.

Hi Peter, I had a heck of a job finding some for my 3126's. Same as you found they were cracked, discoloured and leaking. Ended up getting them from the US and found they were called Big Vehicle Coolant Return System and they ended up being exactly the same as on my 1996 CAT 3126 engines. Try here :- http://www.autobarn.net/acbvr-4.html not sure if they are same as yours though Best Regards Chris

Chris, you are a miracle worker.. I have searched all over and could not find anything close. It just so happens that the Autobarn distribution center is located in my town. I called them to see if in stock, it was. I picked it up and you are right, they are almost identical to the originals I have. I can even use the original bracket I have since it is more weather & salt resistant.
The item is only US$11.95 including brackets. Every other site I looked at for recovery tanks was asking US$65 or higher and they still were not right.

I love this Club SeaRay site, so many help boaters out there like yourself to make the job easier.

Regards
Peter
