Would love to hear from anyone who has a recommendation to a good carpenter or carpet company that can replaced the carpet on my SR460.

I hear the job is labor intense due to the fact the maufacturer glued the carpet down originally. Also, the two electronic couches have to be removed to get the carpet laid underneath. Both of these hike the price up. Looking for someone with experience on boats and may have a trick or two for removing this carpeting.

Let me know if you have had your carpet replaced, approx. cost and what type of carpeting you used.

Thank you.

I've been thru this on a 450DA and you are right that this is a labor intensive job. Not only must the recliners be removed, you also have to find all the hidden screws to remove the kick panel (baseboard) as well as any built-ins that are placed on top of the carpeting. The most difficult part of the job was removing the old carpet....it is glued down and Sea Ray does a very good job installing it. The old carpet comes out in pieces about the size of your thumb nail. The yardage on the 450 is probably comparable to the 460, but I suspect the labor will be more intensive. We selected the carpeting used in later Sundancers and it was about $55/yard.....the installation was about 3X the cost for residential installations. We got the best and most experienced carpet layer in town because you can do a lot of damage in a boat if you don't know what you are doing. Little things like properly finishing off the deck hatch cuts make a huge difference in longevity and durability of the installation. We happen to be in an area where the marine services industry is big. If there are limited marine resources in your area, interview whomever you hire carefully and get references.

Good luck with your project.

Gail, I think you will find similar answers here to what I've said. You "generally" get what you pay for, and an area like this that basically finishes off your entire interior is definitely something to do right.

Migala in St. Joseph has done a lot of these boats and I think is the best in the immediate area....(50-60 mile range) since they know the ins and outs of doing these boats.

I would echo Ray's comment. I'm as frugal as about anyone, but this is one upgrade on our boat where the cost was a secondary consideration. I've been around a while and I knew what would be involved in the carpet replacement, so I wanted an installer who had done this before and whom I could check references on as well as look at some of his work. He put a hardwood salon and new stateroom carpeting in an 82' Hattaras before doing our boat, so I could see his work. I got the right guy, he did beautiful work and he was expensive.........and he has since become a friend and has installed hardwood floors in our beach house.
