Carpet versus No Carpet

We leave the carpet in and also consider it a consumable item. The carpet in the boat is 9 years old and still looks great. The backing is breaking up now *Black Sea Ray rubber backed stuff* so we are going with some nice new carpet this year. Only $535 which averaged out is well worth it!

Most of our use is with the carpet out, especially if we're going to be in and out of the water a lot.

However, if it's a short trip with no plans to be in the water, we like to keep it in. On long cruises, we almost always keep it in, as it seems to be quieter as a sound insolator.

Our original carpet had the problem with the backing disintegrating, and we replaced it a few years ago from snap in carpet and we love the replacement.

Rainmaker,

We tie our carpet use to our eisenglass enclosure - we put the carpet in when the eisenglass goes on in October, and when we take it down in April, the carpet comes out and is stored.

6 years old and the rubber backing is fine...

We leave the carpet in. Like others say, its a consumable.. I don't take the carpet out of my car to make it last longer. I'd rather enjoy its comfort.

With our open stern the carpet is a must to keep from burning the toes. Every once in a while I step on the ski locker teak and burn the crap out of my toes.

I have a SeaRay 220SD we bought in Aug 02. First thing we did before we ever put the boat in water was take out the porta potty and take out the snap in carpet . Yeah it's comfy , quiet and nice . But we use our water sprayers and jus a little soft scrub and wash our floor out every trip . Our neighbors kept theirs in . It got wet then they put the cover on and now they have horrible mildew smell

I would say use it or loose it. If you are going to use it then don't worry about it too much. If you really want to keep it looking new, put it away and forget about it until you sell the boat.

I leave my carpet in all summer. Just hose it off at the end of the season with a little soap and water.

I keep a small vac handy for when the kids are eating. I do not allow anything red or orange on the boat....just beer and sprite :)

Another vote for carpet IN.

We have 2 girls (ages 7 and 5) and we love the carpet in. It gets wet and dirty at times, but it's far more comfortable and easier on our feet than fiberglass. Most of our friends envy the carpet as well. It dries quickly and we keep a small dust buster on board to clean up during (if necessary) and after the day. To clean it we usually unsnap it, roll it, bring it home, and give it a power washing. Done! It also is easier on the eyes, as the bright white fiberglass can be blinding in the sun.

I bought one of those Ryobi cordless tool kits that had a dust buster and a light. I never used them, so I decided to keep them aboard. Works great and saves on disposable batteries.

Ditto on this....My wife and i love the carpet feel and since there are no kids coming and going we keep it down..once or twice a season i'll pull it up and put it on the driveway and wash and hose it down...let the sun dry it:thumbsup:

completely agree. like the carpet in. and as the other poster said "consider it a consumable item".

When I go to sell the boat I don't think someone really is going to say, "wow - you've obviously used your boat but the carpet is spectacular!!!!!"

So, if you don't want it - put it in the garage. If you like it, wash it a few times and fogetta about it :)

Leave the carpet down!! It'll last 5 - 6 years and be much more comfortable and easier on your feet! I hose mine down every third or fourth trip in and I boat in Charleston... straight salt! Just plan on pouring a little $$ in the hole in the water for new carpet... I've found it you wash it off and take it in each winter, it'll treat you right!

Yes.

Take care of it. I like the carpet in my little boat, I find it easier to clean and maintain that scrubbing underneath.

It is nice on the feet on hot days and keeps the reflected heat and glare down.
