As per the title i've a few carpet snaps which have come lose.... its the part that fixed to the boat itself using a tiny screw.... the male snap i think you would call it.

the hole in the boat is too big now for the screw to catch grip... so i was planning on drilling out the hole a bit bigger and then filling it with fiberglass... then id drill a tiny pilot hole for the screw to reattach the snap.

Nervous about drilling the boat so wanted to check if anyone else has tried this repair before??

MarineTex is great stuff (also PC-11). But I don't know how easily you can get it where you are. A small kit of either polyester or epoxy resin is great, too. You don't need fiberglass. You also don't need to drill it out any larger, first. Do this: Wet the inside of the hole with the resin (a pipe cleaner works great), then thicken your resin and fill the hole. You don't need to fill the whole thing, either. Take note to the back side of the hole -- for drips -- depending on what is behind the particular hole you're working on. Your new pilot hole needs to be at least the size of the screw shank, if not a hair larger. Tape around the hole before you begin to keep things less messy.

Y'all are going to hate me for this answer, but it works, and under carpet, it won't be noticed. I had a similar situation with a snap stud for my canvas. I used the cheapest plastic hollow wall anchor I could find, tapped it into the hole until it was completely seated and re-installed the snap stud. The plastic anchor had a very thin shoulder. That was 4-5 years ago and it's still holding tight. And not noticeable.
