Just thought I'd share an experience - I bought a Bissel Little Green Machine to shampoo the rugs in my boat. While I wouldn't want to do a room sized carpet with this little machine, I found it to be perfect for the small patches of carpet in my cabin. The included cleaning solution worked very well, and the suction/extraction function removed an amazing amount of liquid. It was appalling how much filth came out of a small 2' X 4' patch of carpet! I guess that's why they pick that medium beige for a color!
The unit retailed for around $75 at Best Buy. They also make a pricier unit with rotating brushes (Pet Spotter something?) that goes for around $135, but I found the fixed brush as well as a hand-held scrub brush did a fine job of working the solution into the carpet. Also, It's one less thing to break!
All in all, for small scale cleaning in a confined space, I found this to be a pretty decent little unit. If you're looking for a way to get those glued in place carpets clean, I'd say this is worthy of your consideration.
Cheers,
Bill
