Carnival Triumph

Don't wonder. Just do it. I'd compare that to not flying because every once and a while a plane crashes. There are thousands of cruises underway at any given time that go off without a hitch. On the off chance you get "struck by lightening" and have a bad experience like this, they'll reimburse you for this cruise and give you a free one. They're in no danger, just inconvenienced. It is a GREAT time with a tiny risk and you should definitely experience it!!

Doesn't sound like such a great time...

When another Carnival cruise ship, the Legend, rendezvoused with the stranded vessel Monday, supplying Triumph passengers with food and supplies, Texas resident Brent Nutt was able to briefly chat with his wife, Bethany, who could draw a cellphone signal from the visiting cruise line.
Without power, the ship's stabilizers are apparently not working, Nutt told The Associated Press, and the massive liner had been leaning to one side Sunday. By Monday afternoon, the ship seemed more upright, he said.
"She sounded a whole lot better today than she did yesterday," Nutt said about two hours after chatting with his 32-year-old wife.
Passengers were also given food, Nutt said, and some of the bathrooms are working. But the ship is dirty, Nutt said his wife told him.
"There's water and feces all over the floor," Nutt relayed. "It's not the best conditions. You would think Carnival would have something in place to get these people off the ship."
Passengers also are getting sick and throwing up, he said, adding that his wife told him: "The whole boat stinks extremely bad."

They should have a dozen or so Jabsco manual toilets for times like these

Well have to agree, if it happens to you it won't be a great time but the chances are somewhat slim. We have been on about 20 and have never had any issues. Just in the middle of booking one from Australia to New Zealand. Although, I have to admit Carnival (plus a few others) would not be our first choice of cruise line......

As a frequent "cruiser" these kind of news I don't want to hear. But that's life........

I wander what's the deal with their backup systems like backup generators to provide at least minimal power supply to vital systems like lights, electronics, heads and galley. It doesn't sound like engineers did a hell of a job designing this (or many others alike) ship.

The main thing, of course, is that everyone is safe.

...Although, I have to admit Carnival (plus a few others) would not be our first choice of cruise line......

We also never did carnival. There were other obvious reasons why, but this case tops them all.

so if I go and it happens I will call you and describe...in detail...the "urine soaked" carpet .

Carnival is the last cruise line I would choose. Remember, they own Costa Cruises.

We've had plenty of fun on Carnival.....this ship seems to be a jinx for them....three breakdowns. I've been told Princess is the best right now but I like the shows and crew on every trip we have made on Carnival. My wife and friends did the Cruise to nowhere for two days out of Baltimore when Sandy hit NY and the ships could not go there. They had a blast. It is what you make it.

I think some of the better cruise lines are Crystal, Cunard, Regent, Seabourn, (not necessarily in that order) we have tried several cruise lines and one of our favourites is Celebrity which is part of the Royal Caribbean group which are not too bad either. I would give Costa a miss too:) Holland America used to be pretty good (have not travelled with them for awhile) now they are also owned by Carnival Corporation. Carnival earned a reputation as the "party ships" for youngsters and have made big bucks at it and bought out other lines. Carnival Corporation (based in FL) also owns Princess, Cunard, P&O, Seabourn and many others, I think they are the largest cruise ship operators around. However, understand they have kept the identity of each line as it was before they bought them (thank goodness) Crystal won't be full of "partying" students:)

I don't mind young party girls! Never really saw much of that lately.

They also own White Star lines which owns the Queen Elizabeth and oh the Titanic. With that said I've been on 6 cruises 2 Carnival then Royal Carribean. ,norweigen etc, never a problem love cruises, and would go carnival again .next is Europe cruise.

Why you need a ditch bag? Ready to jump overboard?...LOL

I just want her to stay afloat. The rest is inconvenience.

"They're in no danger ..." - they definitely were at some point. A fire big enough on a ship to eliminate all propulsion capability (and most of the ships power - my guess is they have six diesel engines and only one or two are operational) in my book definitely means a very dangerous situation existed at one point in time. Any significant fire on a ship is a serious threat (as we all know, fire is the #1 risk/danger on board a ship). As for Carnival, I personally really don't think that the kind of passenger they are catering to really has any reflection on the quality of the engineering, safety equipment/capabilities, engines being used, etc. I have cruised on many lines and as recently as December visited the engineering room of a Carnival ship - it was pretty impressive. Something like this could likely happen on any ship, fortunately though it's rare ...

Just my 0.02 FWIW.

Sincerely,
Jason

I would just stay away from carnival, especially their older junk. Princess, Norwiegan, and Celebrity are far better lines to go on. How do I know? I work for the company that sold them there propulsion and generator systems. WHy does carnival suck? They don't maintain their $h!t! They are cheap @$$ company whos only concern is the dollar....they couldn't give a crap about human life for the most part....
