Hi all,
I have a problem with my throttle. sundancer 250DA 5.7 litre mercruiser engine.
I pushed the throttle all the way forward and the throttle now has no response. I had the problem before and fiddled with something on the carb linkages that seemed to have travelled to far (clicked over)? But I can't remember what I did??
I have disconnected the throttle cable and moved the throttle lever carb end of the cable seems to work ok.

any ideas?

much appreciated.

What do you mean by no reponse? If you move the throttle forward (assuming it is cable) and no response, then you have a cable issue. Connected at the throttle lever, broke cable or disconnected at the carb...

Start the engine and go to the carb and move some of those pieces around like last time which is to say, try to find the connection that moves the carb butterfly valve so the engine revs up. Thats what the throttle cable should be attached to. If the cable isnt attached to that carb butterfly valve piece, there is obviously no way the throttle can control it.

So once you find the right part, find the cable piece that moves when you move the throttle and verify it is still connected or re-connect it, but also, and this is important, make sure the outer protective cable is properly attached to some part just before the carb. This is tough to describe so wish I had a picture but what I am trying to say is, your throttle cable is really a cable inside a cable. If the outer cable piece isnt secured properly, the movement of the inner cable will not work, and it will just make the hole cable assembly wiggle back and forth a little but not actually MOVE the inner cable, which is the one that will move the carb butterfly valve. When this happens, the throttle will simply flop the cable around in the engine room or wherever it isnt secure instead of moving the carb's butterfly valve as it should. So within a couple inches of the butterfly valve connection, the outer part of the cable should be connected to a secure part of the carb or engine to ensure the outer cable is not moving. This will allow the inner cable to move a couple inches back and forth which will allow the throttle movement to move the butterfly valve properly.
