Hello. Sorry to ask this question, however I wrote the part number down for my carb and left it in the boat (which is 1hr away). Does anyone know the model carb on a 1988 Sundancer 300DA with twin 5.7 260 Alpha's ? I need to order a rebuild kit and would like to save a few days as I cant get to the boat until Wednesday. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

quadrajet

OE would have been Quadrajet I believe
but it could have been changed to a Holley or Edlebrock over the years

It's probably a QJ, but that being said, there are lots of different QJ's. I wouldn't order without the number.

This is the number for my quadrajet 17080561. Should be a tag or number stamped in the edge of the carb.

They came with Quadrajets. That's what was on my original motors.
Make sure whatever you have on there is a real marine carb and not an automotive one converted for marine use. Lot's of rebuilders will take your marine carb as a core, but give you back a converted automotive one in exchange.
BTW: I have a rebuilt marine one for those motors with about an hours use on it. I put it on one of the motors last fall and then decided to replace both motors.

As stated earlier, there are many different versions of the quadrajet. I would get the number prior to getting the kit. Most parts places will require this to make sure you get the correct kit. Is there someone you could call to get the number for you?

Thanks guys. Still not sure if I will rebuild myself, or send out to get rebuilt for $220/ea... Never did it before but does not look too difficult.

I was scared to rebuild my carbs. (Rochester 2bbl) I had a backup mechanic lined up to fix my mistake. Turns out I just got worked up over nothing really. Go slow, google and see if you can get a step by step, or even a youtube video.

You MUST get the right rebuild kit, preferrably with needles and a float if your unsure the condition of your float. Assembly is litterally the reverse of disassembly, that being said I only found detailed written instructions for the assembly.

Also buy a gallon container of carb cleaner (with the parts tray) Time saver letting the parts soak for 15 min then cleaning them. make sure to use compressed air and blow it all out of the holes.

The only caviat is if you have dual carbs that need to be sync'd together. I did not, I have a sync'er (for lack of a better word) that gives me red or green lights when the two engines are not rpm matched.

For $150.00 more you can have brand new holleys.......A direct replacement for the quadrajet i think the holley number is #4175

Might not want to do your first rebuild on a boat carb. It'll probably work out good for you, but if it doesn't you could be in for some real problems.
