Anyone know a good source for them? Found some 12 volt ones on eBay for $70 to $120. Is that the normal price?
Are the 9 volt ones you get at Home Depot Coast Guard accepted. They are not hard wired in.

Yep, if you get anything that says "marine", it's going to be more expensive!
Any battery operated CO detector should be fine... I've seen some with 10 year sealed batteries for around $30.
Just be aware that some factory CO detectors are tied into the generator and will inhibit starting/running.

I'd want at least one of them hard wired to the boat's 12v system for redundancy.

That way if the batteries die in the other units you're still covered. I've got a 12v FireBoy near the galley, and two battery powered unit, one in the v-berth and another in the cockpit.

The ones you find at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. will sound at the first sniff of CO. The Fireboy-Xintex monitors you buy at WM, etc. are time-weighted, meaning they won't sound if you happen to open the cabin door while underway, resulting in a lot less "nuisance" alarms. For instance, if my cabin door is open when I am backing the slip, a home-type alarm will go off. I ended up buying a replacement Fireboy for that reason. Having said that, I know some that have both types on board, with the home version in the sleeping area.

When I bought my 98 290 SD this year I replaced what looked like the original CO's with new style FireBoy's. They have a few different models depending on whether your CO's are tied into the generator circuit or not. Mine were not.

I bought them through West Marine.......
