Based upon what I have been able to research, the Fireboy/Xintex detector should be replaced every 5 years. Can anyone confirm/deny this fact? Thanks..

After getting random alarms, I started to research. I would suspect this is the original unit in the boat. 9 years old now. Thanks.

In a house they last roughly 6 to 8 years. On a boat I would consider myself silly to let one go past 5. Even if it isn't alarming it doesn't mean it is worth risking a life.

It actually has a built in timer that starts when it leaves the factory... 5 years and then it should stop. I just bought a backup on eBay (with generator/relay) for ? $90 and it was "6 months" old when I got it.

But watch out if seller have taken date label off - or selling old stock.

Also, this will not only sound an audible alarm, but in my case would not allow you to run your generator, due to the generator relay mentioned by kaz911 in the previous post.

Yes absolutely change them at least every six years. It's cheap life insurance
