I posted this in the Gas Transmissions post but didnt get much traction. Long story short I was having engine/shifting troubles the other night and my port engine was dying, running rough and not shifting. I thought it was a transmission problem since when i was putting it in gear it wasn't moving. My marina looked at it and said the carb needs to be rebuilt. It was running so rough and poorly that when I put it in gear the props weren't turning much and made it seem like they weren't shifting. The thing is when I bought the boat (1995 330 DA with twin 454 MerCruisers with Hurth V-Drives) in August 2014 I had both carbs rebuilt and all the ignition coils and wires and plugs redone. Can carbs go bad after that long? I boat in MN so all fresh water and not a long season.

Thanks!!!

Chris

Did you stabilize the gas when you put it away last fall? Are you running non-ethenol fuel? Have you checked fuel filters?

What he said.

Start from a portable tank with some K100 treatment in fresh fuel. Work back from there.

The answer is NO! rebuilds suck. I took those crap Delco carbs off and put Holley replacements on 6 years ago. Never even a burb out of them. Plus it starts better.

yes it can happen.. The mercarb 2 bbl is one of the worst with ethanol fuel..The ethanol eats the carb bowl turns it fuzzy white.. found that phase 4 treatment and mystery oil solves those issues, add it as labled on the bottle..
