The admiral and I along with three other boats spent 8 days traveling to three Islands (5 if you include departing from and returning to Mason’s Island Mystic). Our first port of call was Newport RI where we spent the first two nights, though this is an annual stop Newport is Newport and it’shard to untie and pull out when the calendar tells you when you must.

We left Newport and headed to the island of Chuttyhunk MA; this was the first time all but one of us had visited this charming little island and will definitely not be our last. Chuttyhunk is different from any place we have ever traveled to.With only 12 full time residents and around two hundred people living there during the summer months it is a great place to relax and recharge. Oh, it is also a “dry” island but they encourage you to BYOB. There were two places for sit down dinner services and both where run out of the local resident’s homes; we choice to eat at Sopranos, GREAT pizza and fresh seafood entrées. You eat on picnic tables in their drive way; and if you are planning to visit make sure you bring supplies to cook on the boat. If you hit bad weather they won’t be open other then for take out pizza. Our second night we purchased fresh local lobsters directly at the dock; you can take it with you or have it cooked for an extra $2. We choice the latter and it was excellent! There is a raw bar that not only takes orders at the marina but heads out among the moorings as well.

I failed to mention that the marina consists of a fix dock and each slip has four pillions to tie off of. I must give credit to the admiral; she was unable to lasso or get each line around the pillions so she took the helm for docking so I could tie her up; she did a MAGNIFICANT job!

The last stop was four nights at Payne’s Dock on Block Island, Rhode Island. Though this is close to a monthly stop for us this was the first time we have been there since my friend, mentor and fellowSea Ray captain passed away while staying at this very dock. Butch left us over this past Fourth of July weekend and it was a very emotional return for all of us.The island may never be the same but we felt the need to take it back in Butch’smemory (Butch suffered a massive heart attack at his favorite spot while enjoying what he loved best; time on his Sea Ray surrounded by his family and friends). This past Saturday his family returned and his two incredibly strong and wonderful daughters ran the Block Island triathlon in his honor; and they both finished!

Well that’s my journal of our first week long trip. We learned one thing on week is not long enough!

WOW Mystic,

sounds like a great trip for sure! Sorry to hear about your friend, but if I could pick a way to go that would be it and on BI. I hope to be making some trips and stories of our own as we just acquired our new girl!
