Hello all,

I have a 220 Signature Select that came stock with a Captains call exhaust. The problem that I have is that when it is at idle and I am not diverting thru the hull, the exhaust is still bypassing and going thru the hull.

The real problem is that when in the Marina and starting up and leaving, it is very loud to the point the fellow boaters are asking me to please turn off and go thru the leg.

Now, when I am clear of the marina, and start to give her some RPM, the exhaust does go to the leg hence reducing the sound.

What I think is that the baffles are loose and that they need the higher pressure to "seat" them.

So, you may have guessed that I am new to this as I just purchased the boat earlier this year, so my experience is not that much.

I am taking the boat out of the water to winterize and would like to know if this is normal for captains call. Or, should I have it looked at to reduce the sound when at idle (without captains call).

Thank you for everyones time and comments.

We have a small amount of exhaust/sound come from the thru-hull while at idle, but it is very little with the captain's call off. I'd have it looked at.

Just to be clear, do you have control over the switching, or does it do it automatically? Assuming you have control, do you have the electrical solenoids mounted on the riser? Are they fully engaging when you press the button?

Lazy Daze, I have control over the switching, and yes the solenoids are moving when I switch them.

It is a 454 so it is a deep rumble and on a quiet morning, I am sure it wakes up alot of people.

thanks

The diverter is right inside by the solenoids. My first thought would be that they aren't seating all the way. Either because the solenoids are bad (corroded, bent arms, etc) or the diverter itself is corroded.

When this happens, try to verify if both solenoids are extending/contracting the same length.

The baffles in the muffler tips shouldn't be an issue.

Ok,

I am sure that the solenoids are travelling all the way, both equally on both sides.

Can anyone tell me if it is normal to have some bypass? I am assuming the Divertors or not seated all the way (sorry, I said baffles earlier) Or do the divertors have some small holes in them to allow a small amount of bypass.

Here, I can sound like an idiot and ask questions but I would like to be informed before taking to mechanic or if I even need to.

Thanks again for the help,

k-town
