Just got a 45 sundancer and the old carpet has left a lot of backing stuck to the cockpit floor-anybody know how to remove it ? Very Tough stuff !

I just did that with mine…I used a stiff nylon bristle brush and simple green, it took a LONG time to get it off…The worst part is my new Corinthian gray back carpet is doing the same thing. The first stuff was the original black backing that turned to dust over time.

I guess they all do that. I take the carpet out every season end and clean it... I then put Armor All on the backing before I put the carpet down and it helps.

Armor All...I was wondering if there might be something to at least slow down the deterioration. Mine has not begun just yet, but the Armor All sounds like a good thing. I will use it when I winterize. Thanks for the suggestion.

There is a backing called Nuwave that I am told does not do that. I plan to look into it this weekend.

I don't use Armorall on anything. It contributes to downgrading of the rubber over time.

I do use Back to Black a Mother's detailing item. It's in a small red squeeze container. Put a little on a cloth, wipe on, wipe off. I use it on the black plastics used on my vehicles. Does a great job and keeps things nice and black.

Paint this over the black backing:

Get it at Lowes. $20 for a gallon.

Can says it is white? Do you just brush it on? This sounds good. Is it kind of a rubberized product?

Bennet,

Yes. It is a white, siliconized product. About the consistency of mayonaise. Buy a throwaway chip brush and "paint" it on. Mine was done 18 months ago and still looks like the day I did it. My black backing was 10 years old and was in terrible shape (disintegrating).
