We are planning a trip this summer from Cape May to St Michaels via the Delware River and C&D Canal.. Trying to determine hours and fuel usage between Cape May and St. Michaels. Anyone have this information and any other information regarding this trip.

Would appreciate any information..

Thanks!!!

Great run! Your boat should be more than capable. Crusing in the 23-26knot range you can easily blast to the C&D in a couple of hours where you can top off the tanks. From the C&D canal you'll be pretty protected and should be able to make St. Michaels in a couple more hours (I've made a similar run in one day...but its a long day so I'd suggest splitting it into two days).

Make sure to visit the dock bar at St. Michaels Marina (which is a great marina to stay at) after hours. For dinner try Ava's one night and if your into fine dining go to 208 Talbet another night for dinner...will have a great time.

The St. Michaels Winery is a great stop during the day. Its not on the menu anylonger but ask for the "Woobley". This sample of all of their wines is a blast and ends with St. Michael's Chocolate Zin...one of my favorites!

It is 63.1 nm from Cape May harbor to Chesapeake City on the C&D canal. From there, it is another 56.4 nm to St. Michaels (via Kent Narrows).

The usual warnings about winds opposing currents on the Delaware Bay applies.

I agree with Mike about being a “long run” for one day. I think it would be more enjoyable for you to split the trip into two days. Stay the first day at Chesapeake City, which is by itself a great place to visit.

We have lots of pictures of both St Michaels and Chesapeake City on our web site in the photo gallery.

I ran up to Cape May twice this past summer from Annapolis. Took me 4 1/2 hours each way. Great trip. The Delaware bay is Huge.

I've done very similar trip three times. All three times we started at Schooner Island marina in Wildwood. Twice we went directly to BIH and once directly to Annapolis then BIH. From BIH, Twice we headed accross to Kent Narrows and stayed in Mears Point before heading over St. Mikes. On one trip, BIH was the only Chessapeake destination.

On the way home, we twice went back to Schooner's for 1 or 2 nights. Once, we headed from BIH directly to Atlantic City for a few nights....a longer trip.

Back in 2001, we stopped at Shaeffers for lunch and fuel. We never made it a two day trip, but that's not to say I wouldn't....just saying that I don't think it's necessary unless you want to.

We've got about a 50-50 streak going with Delaware conditions....it's either been calm as a bowl of jello or the ride from hell.......

Just want to say thank you for all the information - we are heading to St Michaels on June 19th from Brick, NJ - staying at nite in Cape May, and hopefully we can make the run from Cape May to St Michaels in one day!

Thanks!!!

Word of caution. The Delarware Bay can be fierce at times. If you come out of the canal leaving Cape May and it is rough, just wait till you get out to the middle. Obviously you can hug the shore but, it will make the trip sometimes twice as long. On my second trip this summer, about 2 miles out into the Bay, I just turned around and went back and waited a day. It is a great trip and you should not be discouraged in any way from doing it. Just be cautious. I thought the Cheseapeake was big. The Delaware Bay is massive to the point where when you are in the middle, there is no sight of shore in any direction.

I seem to have encountered a lot of debris in the northern Delaware from around Salem Point nuclear plant to about 2 or 3 miles into the eastern end of the C & D. I suggest you keep an eye out for brush, lumber, railroad ties, etc. It's been there both spring and fall the last 4 years when I've come thru.

We cruise from Cape may to St Michaels we travel at about 20 knots. It takes us 7.5 hours. If we go through Kent Narrow we have to wait for the bridge to open, A bot that can go under the bridge without it opening should be able to do it in 7.25 hours. We do not have to stop for fuel. So you must adjust for that if you have to stop.

It is a great trip enjoy. If you stay at Canyon Club stop by we are at slip E-18

We can make that run in one day - as long as the weather holds out...

You sure can! Two years ago I ran from Brick to Kent Island in one long day, which is only 40 mins from St Mikes.

Jim, I like your thinking... We are leaving Brick on a Saturday morning, staying the nite in Cape May, then heading to St Michaels, staying at St Michaels Marina Sun thru Fri....

Enjoy the great weather!

We have done this trip 5 times from Toms River, this is what we usually do:
Day one: TR to Cape May (Get your fuel a Utschs)
Day two: Cape may to Fair Lea Creak (Great Anchoring spot) swim up bar (Jelly Fish Joes, beach, Swimming pool golf course)
Day three: Inner Harbor Baltimore
Day four: St Michaels

Summerdeis. I'll be @ St Mikes the 19th and 20th, I'll be running down the bay late Saturday morning.
Whats your ETA and where are you staying?
