Cape May This Weekend

Tim,

We did a run from Skipjack Cove to Wildwood in early September and it took about 4 hours and 30 minutes running at about 22 knots (bottom is in serious need of some maintenance). We were against the current most of the trip and only slowed down where you did. Maybe my geography is screwed up but I thought Rock Hall was about 2 hours below us. Needless to say we have not gotten that far South this season. I either need to run faster or get a new watch!

Somehow I knew that that was coming...........But I don't have strange bolts showing up under the engine or things vibrating off, or hydraulic hoses breaking. Damn, I feel almost left out......

Looks like a great trip.

Interestingly, we ran into Hooter Patrol IV at the BIH on Saturday. I guess the guy gets around.

Don't need to travel all the way to Cape May for a sunset. We had a real purdy one on the hook at the Wye River this weekend.

Jim-
The hook with the Cape May sunset is that the sun sets over water. Not that that is such a big deal, but that's the hook... and yes, yours was purdier!

Frank-
From my slip in Rock Hall to the mouth of the C&D in the Elk River is 90 minutes.... so you're not that far after all! You should come down sometime for a visit. Also, don't you guys have some kind of killer 6 MPH zone on the Sassafras?

Tim,
The 6MPH zone is just in front of the marinas all the time, and about 1/2 mile further west on weekends to protect $1.98 beach (local anchorage). With those exceptions, the remaining 5+ miles of the sassafras is as fast as you want to go.

Then it takes you what, about 30 minutes to get to Still Pond?

I signed the winter contract at Triton (got it right this time) and will be moving the boat up there in about 2 weeks. The manager suggested hitting it at half to high tide as it gets skinny if you miss the channel markers which are quite far apart. Are you wintering there?

Frank-
It takes us 40 minutes to get to Still Pond. That includes the ten minutes it takes from the slip to the mouth of the harbor. And yes, I'll be at Triton this winter. I'm Probably not going until mid-November so I can be "first in" so we can spend a couple of months in Baltimore Inner Harbor before moving back to The Rock.

And lest there be any concerns about my time keeping, here are my records (which I confirmed with the time stamps on my pictures):
0935- Left slip in Rock Hall
1105- Western mouth of C&D canal in Elk River
1200- Salem nuclear plant
1330- Mouth of Cape May Canal
1355- South Jersey Marina (in slip)

Larry-
I would love to come to Urbanna... I feel I've used up all my weather Karma for the year. If I attempt that trip I'll ruin it for everyone.

FYI, there is also an oyster festival at the St. Michaels Maritime Museum. I will be attending with two other boats, (SeaRay’s of course) from my marina – should be a terrific last trip to end a great season.

Tim, about 2 weeks ago I saw you behind the Museum as you were leaving. We were the boat proudly flying the CSR burgee and were anchored out in the basin sort of in front of the Inn at Perry Cabin.

OysterFest (New Weekend!)
Saturday, October 27, 11am-4pm
Sunday, October 28, 12pm-4pm
20th Anniversary of OysterFest. What better way to kick off a celebration than with CBMM’s 2nd Annual Oyster Slurp Off. Join in on the fun as amateurs and the occasional professional compete for the fastest time, or take part in all in things "oysters", cooking demonstrations, tonging trips down the Miles River, KidsTown and more. Have a boo-rific time at the Museum’s Haunted Halloween while at OysterFest.

Oh come on Jim. You can't have an Oyster Festival at St. Michaels. What is that all about? You have to extend your pinky as you eat one? It's not an Oyster Festival until people are snorting them.

Come to Urbanna and join us!

St. Mike’s does have a large dose of the stodgy and stuffy set that dress all alike and seem to be more concerned about how they look than having fun. Somehow, I’m not impressed by it. I’ve been known to drink domestic beer there and even burp on occasion.

Frank-
We will be going to St. Michaels this weekend instead of Still Pond. You should join us, we can drink some domestic beer together!

Jim-
I did see your boat there two weeks ago, I remember the CSR burgee. My brother has your same boat. I was the maniac taking all those kids out on dinghy rides to jump the wakes of the inbound boats...

Gary-
You are going to get pictures of the oyster snorting, right?

I'm going to get a video of that... put it on YouTube... and maybe that blonde from Boater.tv will play it on her show.
