Canvas washing

I have been asking around and can't get the question answered, no one seems to really know. So I ask the panel: Can you wash your canvas in an industrial type washing machine and if so using what detergent?

I do understand after washing it is always a good idea to treat with water proofing.

Hiya JJ,

I washed my canvas in our front load washing machine last fall. I used Dreft Laundry detergent and a small amount of bleach... COLD WATER ONLY! then I hung them out side to air dry. DO NOT PUT IN DRYER! I must say they came out great. I had some junk on mine that I just couldn't get off. This worked. I used 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. I must say so far I am impressed with this stuff. Last weekend had a lovely pile from a gull on my top. thought oh how wonderful the stain will look. That night we had a nice soft rain and it rinsed right off. so far I am happy...

It is the best stuff I have tried so far...

I used one of these to apply to both sides of my canvas worked like a charm...
