Canvas snap replacement

The plier tools are iffy. Buy a base and post and use a hammer on your workbench, or a brick on the driveway.

Dido on the drill. Just hold the old snap with a pair of channelocks or similar and put a block of wood behind it.

I just drill them out. I got the SailRite kit I keep on the boat. makes doing repairs simple

I think he is asking about the canvas side, not the fiberglass/gelcoat side.

@Pirate Lady I own the fancy plier thing (the one canvas shops use) for pressing a new snap into the canvas, and more snaps than a man should own. Happy to mail it to you if you promise to mail it back ;-)

I have one of those Hoover snap installation tools with the different dies. It’s expensive, but awesome. It makes putting snaps in carpet or many layers of fabric feel like putting a hot knife in warm butter.

I got the solution. I called my canvas guy who made the top last year, he said bring it over, he will replace the snap. Easy Peasy. but thanks for the ideas.
Not easy. Too much trouble. The tools cost 2 bucks and a box of parts another 5.

You have to take the cover off anyway. Just drop it next to the boat on top of a 6" long twobafore. Pliars and wire cutters. Remove and replace. Put cover back on. No need to drive anywhere.

If you are nervous, use a small piece of cloth at home to practice.

When he made my new top he put zippers along the frame, simply unzip and it all comes off the frame. Nice. No need to disassemble frame like factory canvas.
