Yesterday when prepping the baot for storage I decided to delve deep into the engine compartment, grease the coupler and steering.
So while I was in a not so favorable position, I decided I would try to find the Cool Fuel unit......Well I couldn't.

I followed incoming water line and all that was there was a football (much smaller though) shaped inline filter..At least I am thinking it was a filter...

I guess I am thinking that I do not have this cool fuel unit. The jury is out, some have said I have it and others have said I don't :smt100

You have it.

The first thing you should come across by following the intake hose is the power steering cooler.

Next should be a black, plastic box by the port engine mount. That's it.

Are you sure you have a "cool fuel" unit? Because this unit is big and doesnt hide well. Yes, its located port side of the block.

The term "cool fuel" is generally used to describe a large "black box" (or module) low on the starboard side of the engine (on a 350 MAG) by the front motor mount that contains an internal gasoline filter and a heat exchanger to cool the fuel. In addition to the fuel lines being connected to this module there are also water lines going to it for the heat exchanger. You can't miss this black box if you do have one.

Other Mercury motors use a conventional heat exchanger that is difficult to see and is down under the engine. If you have a regular spin on canister as your fuel filter then that is a dead give away that you do not have a "cool fuel" module but instead have one of the more conventional heat exchangers.

Zorba - thank you for taking the time to post that. But, your set-up is different. Weave, correct me if I'm wrong, but you have a spin-on fuel filter, right? It'd be inside a black, plastic box on the bottom, stbd side of engine (no bolts on the top lid).

With his spin-on set-up, the cool-fuel is located in that black, plastic box behind the port engine mount.
