Has anyone been to Canalside in Buffalo for a concert or other event? I'm considering a run east on Lake Erie this Summer with stops in Cleveland, Erie and possibly on to Buffalo. Canalside looks like a nice public park with expanded dockage. It appears docks are first come first served with rafting. I'm interested in how busy it is during the week for a Thursday night concert. Any other destinations on the east end of the lake?

Thanks
Bill

Canalside is a great place to spend the nite and watch a concert. You can stay on your boat or on the dock and hear it fine and do not need tickets. If you want to go up and watch the show you need tickets. Overnight (power and water) is $1 a foot. Mandatory rafting is enforced by the Buffalo Police department police boat. I have had good and bad experiences with that. You have to let ANYONE tie up to you and walk across your boat. NO EXCEPTIONS. The Naval museum is right there and features a navy ship and a submarine and is a great way to spend the afternoon. Within walking distance you can catch breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The Hatch is a good place for lunch. The deli in the base of the Marine drive towers has a great breakfast. There is also the Pearl Street Brewery for lunch/dinner or Templetons landing for dinner. Needless to say there are a lot of places to eat within walking distance. Let me know if you have any other specific questions. It does get busy. If you want a spot on the wall get there by noon or so on the day of a concert. As far as other destinations you definitely should make a trip up the river and enter the canal. There is great docking in Tonawanda & North Tonawanda and lots of places to eat, drink, shop, etc. Great facilities on both sides of the canal.

Canalside is a work in progress, new docks have been added this year, and there are a few major construction projects in the vicinity to further improve the area. You are in walking distance of many great restaurants. It gets crowded for the concerts, but if you arrive early on the day before the concert, you should be able to get on the dock with no problems. Rafting most likely will be necessary on concert day. Mid July is the Canalfest on the Erie canal in Tonawanda http://www.canalfest.org/ (about a 12 mile ride down the Niagara river from Buffalo). That is a good destination if timing is right, It also gets crowded, but boats come and go so you may be able to get lucky and get a spot along the walls. We often go to Tonawanda's Gateway park http://www.wheretowhento.com/gateway-harbor-park (site of canalfest) on weekends to visit the restaurants and enjoy the local bands that play at a few of the establishments there. Visitors and loopers that travel the canal visit the falls from there, it's about a 20 minute cab ride. Safe travels

If you go to tonawanda ,take down your antennea before entering the canal!!! dont have to ask do you.
