Can someone explain outdrives for me?

Dont know where they came from, but they are in fact both 99' and has around 500 hrs on them.
What would you say this motor outdrive combo would be worth?

Please don’t make the mistake of thinking the boats value = amount stuck into restoring the boat.

People have taken a $10,000 boat, stuck $15,000 into it and ended up with a $10,500 boat.

I added a generator to our boat for $8,500. I think it added a small fraction of that to its resale value.

My last boat was a 1999 with that engine and drive. I had to replace the coupler at $1,500 because the engine was out of alignment when I traded it in on the 320. I had a survey but not a mechanical inspection. My advice is have the drive pulled and check the alignment and any signs of coupler wear.

Well, I hope the check out went ok.

For a mid 80's boat, a repower project in the late 1990's is not out of line. Of course, that was 11 years ago. The boat may have been worth the effort back then.

Today. . .it's 11 years later!! An awful lot of bad -or good- things could have happened. It may be even be due for a second repower (although, 500 hours is on the light side for that!).

With a boat of this age. . you are *always* going to take a risk. Survey is essential to suss out what you are in for.

Oh. . .are you going to insure the boat? Most insurance types will require a (recent) survey report before granting coverage.

To take the chance that everything is o.k. is not worth it. Get a survey. Seen to many friends losing a fortune repairing older boats, that where supposed to be in great shape.

Well I checked over the boat today just as good as I could. I found no signs of leaks, water marks, tea spots, all screws looked like then were fastend with caulking inside and out, no soggy floors through out the boat,no leaks around hatches. I did some tapping around the transom sounded the same all overs,no thud sounds "It was close to 40 out at sunny for the past 2 days and the engine ran around 20 mins so nothing should have been frozen around that area"
The engine ran smooth and quiet no sputters, ticks,or squeels,no water/oil leaking while running or after. I shut the engine hatch and you couldnt even tell the engine was running, very quiet and no vibrations. The outdrive had no play in it as well as the props.
It turned very smooth, and engaged into gear forward and reverse smoothly w ith no clanks or clunks. I checked all over hull top to bottom and seen no blisters or recent patch work.
All electronics worked from radios to gauges to lights, Except the horn did not work,I will have to fix that.
It seemed very sound and looks like it was taken care of,all bellows were replaced less then 2 yrs ago and engine had a complete tune up last season.
The boat was not perfect,it will need some upholstery work done, teak needs to be redone and a good cleaning, but for a boat of 23yr old I thought it looked pretty good and decided to go on ahead with it and will be buying next week.
I know im no professional but thought I did a decent job of checking for would be issues and for the money im spending it isnt life changing, and paying just under blue book value and even getting a few extras to boot.
So im just going to keep a close eye on things, maintain it and hope the boating gods smile on me.

pre-finalized Congratulations!

Now tell us, are you kid-in-a-candy-store anxious for your first ride?
