Hello all, I purchased a new to me 87 268DA in 2010 and it was always in the marina and then professionally stored for winter. I bought a trailer in the fall and pulled the boat from Lake Michigan.

So. I was told that I can not launch this boat into the water via the trailer due to water getting into the motor. Is this true? This doesn't seem right, tell me this isnt so.

Thanks for the great info and a great site for accessing it.

I wouldn't see why not. I can launch my 300DB from a trailer. But then again I am not an expert on a 268DA.

I do it all the time. Make sure your shutters are in good condition and you shouldn't have a problem.

The only way I could imagine you would have a problem is if the ramp was VERY steep. You should have no trouble otherwise.

I think someone was pulling your leg.

That's a new one to me. I just launched my 250 off the trailer with no issues. The 268 isn't that much bigger.

I launched the 250 all the time and launch the 300 DA all the time too! The steep ramp MIGHT allow water to get into the system and into your cylinders, but that's why you have devices to prevent that too! I'm guessing the marina owner is looking for some quick cash!

You should have no problems. Someone is either mis-informed or teasing you. I launch a 240DA every weekend from all kinds of ramps. Shallow (low sloped) ramps just require me to back-in a little further. Rest assured that your boat will float long before water gets into the motor. The only way I see that happening is if you forget to put the plug in.............

If you couldn't launch a268 off of a trailer I would have lost the twins a long time ago. Just insure your water shutters in the exhaust manifolds are in good shape, as it has already been said.

I did it for 5 years on a triaxle vantage.

I think someone is pulling your leg also,I had a 81 268 on and off no sweat!.

Someone is assuming that you are an easy target for needless billing! It was never a problem with our 1989 268 (single 454 & Bravo I).

Some people!! :smt021

We just unloaded and loaded out 92 270 DA last week and it did just fine.

We trailer our 270 and launch it with no issues. Back it in slow and let it float off the trailer before starting. I'm not a fan of power loading and unloading. Ropes work just fine to move a boat around the launch dock, Mike.

I just bought a 1998 270 DA and was concerned about loading the boat as the weight is so much greater than my current 22 foot Chris Craft. I am TOTALLY new to the Sea Ray and am concerned I am going to not do this right.

For example, what are the exhaust issues for water mentioned earlier? Is this something I have to do or is it automatic?

I can't find anything about this in the owners manual.

Thanks!

I launch my 97 270 DA and do nothing different from my 21 footer.
