Just purchased a 2003 176 searay bowrider that has just has two speakers at the back of the boat. I was wondering if I could install two more speakers in the bow area of the boat. To do so I would need to cut through the fiberglass in order to get a nice flush mount speaker to fit. My question is--can I cut through the fiberglass or would this be too risky--are there other optionsfor mounting speakers?
Thanks, Dwayne

Cutting holes for the speakers is no problem at all. Most marine speakers come with templates so you cut the right size hole.

just dont cut any holes below the water line and you should be OK.

I used a "rotozip" type tool when I cut a 8" hole to install a subwoofer...I applied masking tape first then marked the hole....used 4 bits before I was done...the area I cut was 1 1/2" thick...take your time and measure real good before you start....Dave....oh yeah a dust mask and safety glasses are in order.

I think that you take care that you don't mount too big speakers.

If you take out too much material the stifness and construction can change.

If they are normal speakers I think it's no problem.
