camper top

i hope I'm posting this in the right place... i am looking to get a camper top in the spring... I have a small dilemma... its a place on the web that sells the camper top and frame for 1600 (great lakes boat top) I will have to install all the snaps drill frame work into the boat and who knows what else... There is a local place thats wants 4600 for the complete custom job.... i know that there is a huge price difference... (i don't know if this is one of those you pay for what you get or if the local place is just over charging) has anyone ever used great lakes boat top, or know of any other boat top makers.... thanks in advance for the help

Maybe buy the Great Lakes OEM and have a local guy do the rest of the install? The greatl. Lakes is decent quality. Installing snaps is not an Big deal but you will need to buy a good snap tool.

On the other hand. Advantage of custom is you can change it to what you want. Add screens raise or lower frames etc.

Great lakes does a really nice job... and they probably made the same top for the factory when new. I would do what Creekwood said and find a local installer to fit it to the boat. You might also get the local guy to make some zip in screens.

Thanks I was able to find pics of the great Lakes top.... it's just 3 pieces a window in the rear and 1 on each side... the custom is pretty much all strata glass and or screens....
