What's the purpose of those camper pole velcro covers like John [HAMPTON] has on his boat.?..are they just for looks or do they serve any purpose:huh:

They protect your windows from getting damaged by the poles heating up. I bought something similar @ WM. Sun Sox
 
I'm not sure what John has... but do you mean a soft material that covers the bimini frame? They are to protect your plastic windows - primarily from burning (turns yellow, then brown) against the frame (poles).

Most commonly, there are two systems... (1) Plastic standoffs that clip to the poles in various places and (2) Bimini Sox (or Sun Sox, depending on manufacturer) like what I think you are describing about John's boat. The Sox can also be made locally.
