We are looking at purchasing a Sea Ray 270 Amberjack circa ‘05-‘08.

This model was never offered from Sea Ray with a camper enclosure, just the Bimini top, front, sides, and slant back.

We would like the full camper enclosure like you can get with the Sea Ray 260 Sundancer circa ‘05-‘08.

From what I have read, these boats share the same hull and outer mold above the rub rail for the sides and front of the boat.

So, does anyone know if a Great Lakes camper enclosure for a 260 Sundancer will fit for a 270 Amberjack, maybe all except the rear most panel?

I’m seeing a few 270 Amberjacks for sale with a camper enclosure.

Why am I asking? Because the price difference between Great Lakes and custom is several thousand dollars.

Unfortunately, I do not show a camper available from Great Lakes for the 270AJ in the 2005 to 2008 model years. If Sea Ray did not offer it than GLBT would not have manufactured it for those models.

On a side note, the camper backs were never very popular on boats designated for fishing like the Amberjack since all the additional framing was view to interfere with pole handling (not debating just reporting). If you are looking for the camper why not look into the 2003+ 260DA that did have that as an option. with the rear seat folding against the transom in 2003/04 it expands to give you the access.

I have a few customers with 260DA that we installed canvas for that specifically use the boat for fishing too.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for your kind reply Kevin.

You asked “Why the Amberjack?”

Well, I’m open to the 2005-2008 Sundancer as well.

But….its a combination of options that are causing my search to take time.

I had found one, but it slipped through my fingers, selling in hours.

Basically, freshwater, generator, bigger motor, mid-birth, must fit through a 12’ overheard door.

So, if 270 Amberjack, I am down to a 07-08 with any engine bigger then the 350 Mag, big block preferred, generator, and mid birth.

I’ve added a generator on a former boat, but adding a generator these days is cost prohibitive. $9,000 to add 14 years ago, $25,000 today. So, it must have a generator already installed. I can add a trailer, swap electronics to my liking but the mid-birth, bigger motor, and generator must be there. If the boat has the aluminum arch, I’ll hinge it or remove it. I have a friend who has hinged other metal arches, not fiberglass. Yeah, this arch hinging would cost me about $3,000.

So, if a 260 Sundancer, I’m open to a 2005 - 2008, once again it must have a generator, and bigger motor, but here is the difficult one. I need no arch.

My boating area with fixed bridges and my boat storage which I own simply rules out a non-hindged arch.

My home shop doors are 12’ tall.

So, yeah, is a difficult combination, but I will keep shopping and Im open to a big, multi-state area.
