Well, if all goes as planned I will own my new to me boat this Friday or Monday, the 2001 Sea Ray 380 w/3126 CATs. She's slipped at Wells Cove Marina, I plan to keep her there until the end of April. Would love to meet some of you one day/weekend while I am there.

It's 5 - 6 hours roundtrip by car for me. If I like it there maybe I will keep her there for a season.

Congratulations! It has been a long journey to get this 380. I’m happy for you.

Hey lil buddy. Congrats on boat. Start searching for slip closer to home, that 3 hour drive is gonna get old real fast. Especially the first time you forget the keys, or tools at home. Granted, you would be in the best part of the bay and can get to our favorite tiki bar on fumes.

I have a slip picked out on the upper Potomac. I thought I would hang out in Kent Narrows for a bit to learn the boat and explore a little.

I am leaning towards Hamptons Landing, I really want a covered slip. I am not a big fan of the area though. Seems a little seedy/run down/depressed to me. I like the creek though and the park close by. I also like that there is a service/canvas shop on the premises in case I need them. No finger pier though.

I looked at one at Fairfax Yacht Club (covered floating docks); the boats are packed in like sardines there, literally a foot or less away from each other in some cases, and no finger pier. I may go with Belmont Bay, not covered but I like the area and the full LOA finger pier floaters.

Since you will spending time up here, 2 local online magazines help you get familiar with the area.
PropTalk.com
Upperbayboating.com

Prop talk this month has a great article, page 42, about exploring Kent County, where you’ll be staying.

If you go with Hamptons landing you have Tyme and tide there and easier access south. I know featherstone road area is a little seedy but it is gentrifying. If you are interested in Belmont bay marina you could reach out to @ZZ13 he kept his boat there before he moved to SC. I cringed when they developed that property and extended the no wake zone on the Occoquan. Belmont bay marina certainly will be higher end but is a little more exposed to the open water.

I’m glad you are able to get back into boating and I’m sure I will see you out there this summer if you don’t decide to stay on Kent Island. I wouldn’t blame you if you did. That area of the bay has everything and it doesn’t stain the boat like the Potomac.

I drive right past Wells Cove all the time, especially for the boat. Just switched slips this weekend and opened up the boat. Hopefully staying on the boat next weekend. I live five miles from my marina, Safe Harbor Narrows Point, on the north side of 50. Let me know when your around and I will stop by and say Hello.

If you thinking of hanging around for a while, this area kicks up end of April - beginning of May. Right now the water is still off in the marina's. Safe Harbor has a winter water spigot that we use to fill up on water, not sure if Well's has that or not. Hope your closing goes/went well.

Stopped down Friday around 6pm and today around 4pm. No signs of life. Curious which 380 is yours, U.S.Eh.?

Yeah, it was a bit breezy today. I was planning to spend the night, too windy/loud though.

Breezy? It was nut's around 5. House weather station said 51mph gusts, rain was coming down side ways. Good choice to go home when you did.

Yup. We were commissioning yesterday (and today) in all that mess. Lotsa fun going into the engine room, up on the bow and back in all that. So glad we were able to unwrap and get the canvas up last weekend. No way we could’ve done that today!

To the OP: I’m biased but I’d ditch the idea of the Potomac. It seems like you have lots of options there because it’s all new to you. But you’ll tire of the limited options of places to go, quickly. Staying at Kent Narrows puts the entire Bay at your disposal. In under 3 hours you can be in Solomons. You’d barely be halfway down the Potomac! You have St Mike’s 30 mins away, Baltimore an hour, Havre de Grace 2 hours, Herrington Harbor an hour... and a gazillion anchorages in creeks all over. Nothing in the country compares to all you can do and see on the Bay! It’s worth the drive... just not on a Friday afternoon. Go over on Thursday.

Oh I don't disagree, after talking to a dock mate on Saturday I think it would be amazing to stay there with all the different and various destinations. Then I took the 3-hour drive home 95 South to Richmond and it was horrible. I was an anxious mess by the time I walked into the house.

Clearly, you need to move up 95 a bit. Better yet, up 301...

Maybe calculate your time to Solomons or even to one of the Herrington Harbors (North or South) and see if that'd save you an hour of driving. Might be a way to keep all the Bay attractions...
