On the way back from the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show I'm passing through Clearwater. I keep seeing you guys writing about Caladesi. Worth a visit? My boat is on the West Coast (California, not Florida), so I'll be taking the ferry. Any thoughts?

Even though you'll be "boatless" I'd say yes, especially if you're a beach person. Top rated in the US several times over. The walking trail is OK but not so much in the summer. You'll miss the night time which we enjoy and find relaxing and peaceful since the ferry goers have to leave by the last ferry (I think around 5 PM) but you'll miss the bugs too.

On a mid-to-high tide, they've got a kayak trail cut through the mangroves that's pretty cool. Kayaks for rent, too.

We always go by boat (duh) but I believe there's a 4 or 5 hour max stay with the ferry.
You can call the Ranger's Station on the island (actually, it's not an island anymore!) @ 727-469-5917

I'm at the docks there in my sig pic below.

Visit Tarpon Spring if you can, its a bit north (about 10 miles) of the island and has many site seeing boats that will cruise around other beaches near it too...including Anclote Key. Its Greek to me!

Great place, we visit often, our marina (Home Port) is just a few miles from the island. Take the ferry over from Honeymoon Island which is west end of Curlew road.
